 Job Charnock's Mausoleum is in the earliest colonial church St. John's in the B.D Bag area of Kolkata. in Kolkata.  A  forgotten  mausoleum , it is a popular tourist spot for the Europeans visiting this historical city. Efforts were made by the state government to keep the site in good condition. Charnock, an employee of the English company before the advent of Robert clive  he settled down in this area with his Indian wife and had three daughters through her. He played  no less role in developing Kolkata into a commercial center in the early colonial period. However, he was not the founder of  Calcutta as mentioned in the British India documents. The areas forming the city had been known for their mercantile activities centuries ago and further Portuguese and other European powers were active before the British.  Charnock was with the EIC for more than 35 years and made a solid contribution to the company's growth in Bengal. Upon his death, this Mausoleum was built in 1900 over his tomb in the graveyard of St. John;s Kolkata. 
What is special about this mausoleum is it is made of a special kind of Granite rock composed mainly of quartz, feldspar, Hypersthene 9that contains higher percentage of iodine). 

T.H. Holland of the geological Survey of India, accidental got a chance to observe the tombs and the rocks here. Known for durability and structural strength, this iodine rich granitic rock outcrops are common at  St. Thomas Mount (in Tamil Parangi Malai), a popular suburb of Chennai (Madras).  Here, well known disciple of Christ St. Thomas who in the 2nd CE established seven and half churches in the SW Malabar region martyred. The pinkish rocks are widely used for decoration. In view of  rocks' link with the Mausoleum of Job Charnock in Kolkata, they were named Charnockite after Job Charnock by the colonial Geologist.
