Phooti Kothi, meaning 'broken palace' in Hindi, is an abandoned and incomplete royal residence located in Sudama Nagar, southwest Indore. The building is the only known example of incomplete Holkar architecture, with construction beginning in 1886 under Maharaja Tukojirao Holkar II and being abruptly halted in 1902. It would have been a spell-binding architectural building had it been completed.

Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar, who became a ruler  in 1886, was not happy with the way they interfered in his administration.  He began the construction of a massive building with 365 rooms in Indo-Saracenic style and Indo-Gothic style with three floors  and he had a proposal to have cannons placed atop the last floor capable of targeting the Mhow Cantonment 19 kilometres away.  The palace was conceived during the reign of Tukojirao Holkar II, who was keen to build  it as a grand structure possibly meant to rival the British Residency at Mhow (presently Dr. Ambedkar Nagar) in eastern Indore.

When the British came to know about it, they stopped the further construction. The structure being unfinished, in later years came to be known as  Phooti Kothi

Today, it remains an unfinished structure, surrounded by mystery and local folklore that speak of curses and hauntings. The site, which was originally intended to be an architectural marvel, now stands as a haunting reminder of an abandoned dream.

The palace was conceived during the reign of Tukojirao Holkar II, who envisioned it as a grand structure possibly meant to rival the British Residency at Mhow (presently Dr. Ambedkar Nagar) in eastern Indore.  Originally named Shirpur Kothi or Shirpur Palace, it was meant to be Royal residence with fine embellishments and arched verandahs. Close to Sirpur Lake the structure with massive Durbar hall,  a zenana (women’s quarters), and a nursery, each with its own private garden domestic quarters, etc the plan was  designed British architect Ernest George and Scottish architect Alfred Yeates .
